Crown Power CycleUnfortunately, too many of us have come to experience nature out the window of a car or on a television screen.
Power assisted bicycles have been around for years but advances in battery and brushless DC motor technology have seen them advance in leaps and bounds in recent years. The design of the Crown Power Cycle has incorporated all the latest electrical technology together with rider safety features. The Crown Power Cycle uses a brushless DC motor, which is located in the front wheel hub, so at a first glance it is not noticeable the bicycle is power assisted. The performance and features of the Crown Power Cycle are quite incredible. The motor is located in the front hub and is direct drive, not friction drive onto the wheel – so its driving performance is not affected in wet conditions.
Speed is variable from 0 to 24 kmh with a range of up to 55 kilometers on a single battery charge without peddling. This does depend on terrain and rider weight. If the rider wishes to peddle assist the range can be extended up to 200 kilometers. The Crown Power Cycle has been built to international standards, giving the maximum allowable amount of power assist without the need to hold a special drivers licence. Recharging the battery is by means of a smart charger using standard domestic 230 volt power, with charging times ranging from 2 to 8 hours. The average cost of power per charge has been estimated at 5 cents. Rider safety features include brakes on front and rear wheels. The DC motor automatically cuts out if the brakes are applied. For rider comfort the frame has suspension, both front and rear, together
with 21 speed Shimano gear changes; but more importantly the frame has
a unisex flavour in its design with males and females in mind.
